Possibility of obtaining old number

Hi, 

I'm wondering if anyone knows whether it's possible to obtain an old mobile number back?

If I try call the number, it says "you've dialed an incorrect number, please check the number and try again". 

Am I at total loss here or is it possible if I call BT they might be able to sort something?

you can try CS 03301234150 and see if they can help but I doubt it
