Damage to my property

I moved into a property with a BT cable attached to my roof. The hook is attached to the sarking board above the gutter line and is cutting through my roofing felt. It should be attached to the sarking board below the gutter. Because of the damage caused to the roofing felt and the fact the hook/cable is in the way, rainwater is not being directed to the gutter and is instead running down the sarking board and down my front wall. Replacing the felt will not solve the issue - the cable simply needs to be removed and attached in the correct location. My sarking board is  rotting which could cause the cable to fall off,  meanwhile rainwater running down the front wall and splashing on the ground has caused damp in the all and my front door to warp. Several gutter cleaners and roofers have advised that the cable simply needs to come off.

I can't make any repairs, replace the roofing felt or stop further water damage without BT first coming to the house to remove detach and properly reattach tha cable. Using the damage helpline, I managed to get a BT engineer out once... they hovered on the street but left soon after. Presumably, they could not see any obvious damage or hazard and left.

If BT are unable to resolve this, I would probably have to remove the cable myself so that i can make the repairs to the roofing felt and gutter.

If anyone knows a way to resolve this , do let me know!

thank you

Alex

Re: Damage to my property

Hi @AlexJenkins01

Are you a BT Retail subscriber? You should note that unless you are, this has absolutely nothing to do with BT. The infrastructure and network are maintained by Openreach, which was split from BT in 2016.

Re: Damage to my property

The cables are the responsibility of Openreach not BT.

You will need to contact Openreach and report the damage/ problem.

Re: Damage to my property

Hi There,

This is helpful thanks. It was an openreach van that came last time (and I did contact openreach rather than BT). But I did not appreciate that Open Reach are a separate entity fro BT.  I will take the issue up with Open Reach.

thanks

Alex
