Master socket wiring

  • We have just inherited a flat from an elderly relative and know that he did not use the Internet.  We are now trying to get it connected to the Internet and while we can get a phone to work, we cannot get our router to connect although our service provider has confirmed they have activated our account.
  • We have opened the master socket and some of the wiring looks dubious.  Before getting an engineer out, can anyone kindly confirm which coloured wires should be connected to the A and B terminals.    It's grasping at straws but we are trying to eliminate the obvious possible problems first.

@johndavidhallett

Welcome to this user forum for BT Retail phone and broadband customers.

Its up to your Service Provider to get Openreach to sort out any wiring up to the master socket, so there is no need to do anything. You are entitled to that free visit as part of your provision.

If your Service Provider is BT Retail, then that would normally be arranged within 24 hours as it would be an Early Life Failure.

Re: Master socket wiring

If the phone works then the incoming wiring is correct.

Is there a test socket revealed when you remove the faceplate? If so try that but you'll need a filter.
