Re: Possible fraud?

I have seen their message, actually. And they're well in their right to be worried and be searching forums the same as I have. Let's hope you never experience any fraud to understand the concern people have!

Re: Possible fraud?

Hello CozLou11.
I've seen your reply, so ignore that other user. Sorry this has happened to you too. The GDPR request is a good idea. I wasn't offered that. I was verbally told that my address would be removed, but I'd have liked some written proof. But, if it helps to reassure you, nothing ever came of it since. But for someone who's savvy, like yourself I'm sure, It's that unknown concern who has your address / is somehow linked to it. I struggle with my house being rented for 20 years before I purchased it, so I had debt letters etc. So on top of that worry, this issue with a customer claiming they were moving in to my address was concerning. Who ever this other poster is, clearly has too much time on their hand to be responding with passive aggressive shut downs implying we're stupid to worry. I'd say I was well in my right to be concerned given the engineer had the 'customer' on the phone and him confirming back to us that it was his address and he was moving it. Like you say, utility bill someone else has successfully registered to our addresses, and surely more checks should be done by companies like BT to not allow this to happen! Hope the GDPR check come back with something to put your mind at ease!

Re: Possible fraud?

Maybe so. But one can hope as innocent parties in this, that companies would have more stringent checks so we are wrapped up in others incompetence!

Re: Possible fraud?

Sorry if that caused offense.  That wasn't the intention.

Re: Possible fraud?

Sometimes people use a utility bill at an address that is not theirs for fraud purposes.

Re: Possible fraud?

This is why I mentioned about checking credit files from the main credit reference agencies just to make sure nothing untoward is sitting there.

Re: Possible fraud?

@PT729494 if soneone gives an address when ordering broadband what are they meant to do? Refuse the order or they prove they live there? I get it's worrying but ordering broadband at an address is hardly some high level fraud
