After getting a text from BT saying "Someone wants to take over your line" (No, don't do that..!!) - BT tell me that it is a request from someone at "ORANGE" to take my number... Orange ceased trading some 2 or 3 years ago, so why didn't BT think this was odd. My neighbours have also had this text about their landline too. Is this how scammers get hold of landline numbers to use in their calls? I think this is more than a "mix up with address details" as I've been told it is. Hopefully BT are aware that this is possibly a scam on themselves to take over lines. BT have been very supportive in rejecting this request, but I'm sure we would rather not have to deal with it at all.....
Orange will now be EE why they couldn't tell you that I don't know.
It's not usually a scam, ofcom in there infinite wisdom have advised this is the process if someone orders, someone may have chosen the incorrect address in error
