5 Months waiting for a line to be fixed

Go to solution

Been waiting 153 days now since our activation date for the line to our flat to be repaired. Original activation date was supposed to be the 28th of October 2022, but after installing the new box in the wall they discovered the line outside is totally disconnected. I moved in the day before this and wasn’t aware of any issues with the line.

The pole outside is covered in ivy and we’ve been told by BT that openreach need to go out with a cherry picker to trim it before they can carry out repairs. I’ve lost count of how many times they’ve come out and done nothing now, somewhere between 5-10 visits. They keep passing the buck to the national grid saying they need to sort it and telling us they’ve called them and chased them but nothing gets done.

I work from home and have been using the EE 4g box so far, but it really is too slow for what I need, especially in terms of latency.

Is there any specific person or department I can contact who can actually get some work done? It’s beyond ridiculous that we’re at over 5 months with no line connected to the building at all.

Our 24 month contract comes to around £880 or so, with missed appointments and daily compensation we should be at £850 off our bill. Surely you’d think that would be enough motivation for BT to get it done? Apparently not though.

The original line is still connected and hanging down just tucked away in the bush, so tempting to just splice it and run it through the front door while waiting..

Hi @Birchop thanks for posting and welcome to the community, I'm really sorry your broadband installation has been delayed for such a long time. It sounds like an escalation should be raised with Openreach for your order and we'll be happy to organise that and chase them up to find out whats happening.

I'll send you a private message so you can get in touch with your details.
