BT credit agreement I don't recognise added to my credit report

Go to solution

I received a letter from BT last week telling me I owed them £0 for a mobile phone number and account number that I have never seen before. I'm a bit alarmed that my name and address was correct, because I only moved into the property in January and haven't had any BT products for several years. I logged into my account here and it isn't attached to the account number on the letter, so it doesn't look like this is related to any old broadband or mobile contracts at previous addresses.

Now I've had an email today telling me that a new BT communications supplier account will be added to my next credit report, and this will impact my credit score. Again, I do not have products or agreements with BT, and have not done for several years now.

The only thing I can think is that Plusnet supplied me with a free 4G router because Openreach were initially unable to install an internet line for us. This was returned back in February. Would this have triggered an account creation and contract agreement with BT that I wasn't aware of? Is the delay of five months in processing this expected? And is it correct for this to be added to my credit report when there is no actual credit involved on my part?

Alternatively, should I be worried that somebody has managed to use my details to sign up for a phone contract with you?

No body on this forum, including the moderators have access to your account. You will need to call BT Billing 0330.1234.150 and ask for an explanation or if you are still with Plusnet call them.
