I am about to move out from the UK and close my rental house. When I called BT to terminate my wifi, they said I have a new contract which I was not informed about. They renew my contract after a year for another year and asked me to pay a penalty fee for early termination. The least they could do is inform me a month before my contract ends or notice me about the renewal. I am looking for a way to close my bt account. Hope anyone can help.

BT are required to inform you that your contract is due to end. They also send written confirmation of any contract changes or renewals. And, most broadband contracts are for a 2 year term so are you sure the original contract wasn't a 2 year term.
BT do not renew contracts automatically, when your contract ends you revert to a monthly rolling contract unless you actively renew the fixed term contract.
