BT vs EE?

Not sure if this is in the correct area - apologies if not.

I am a tad confused by BT and EE BB packages currently being advertised on TV. I upgraded from BT to EE last year as was pushed that way when I wanted to renew my BT Service.

The current adverts from both BT and EE seem very 'separate' with no mention of the others service, and when I head to the BT website and enter my address details it allows me to select the latest deals with no mention of already being part of the BT/EE family.

I guess the question is can I transfer to BT from EE (and keep m existing landline phone number) - as if I do I would save around £25 a month over my current EE package - which seems too good to be true?

Yes you can move providers from EE to BT but you can not use the OTS (One Touch Switch) system. You may also be subjected to early cancellation fees if you are still in a Fixed Term Contract with your present Internet Provider.

Many thanks for the response. Just seemed bizarre that last year you couldn't move for ads referring to EE, into which I took the plunge when faced with almost zero choice to renew with BT and constantly being pushed towards EE.  I transferred (though not as a new customer to EE so price was same/similar give or take a few quid), but now I can transfer back as a new customer with associated savings.

Still in contract with EE until April next year so will see what things look like then, but must admit the marketing strategy towards consumers seems questionable when looked at retrospectively.

EE & BT are 2 separate broadband  providers with their own products, services, accounts & billing systems. They are both separate subsidiaries of the BT Group.

At one stage in the past  BT Group strategy  seemed  to move its consumer users for BB  & mobile to EE., 

That policy appears to have changed as has the leadership of BT Consumer so yes expect much more promotion of the heritage BT brand.

However, I would not assume that you will qualify for "new customer" prices.  Just as gg said, you can't use the one touch system, and when it suits them, they don't seem to regard a move from BT to EE or EE to BT as new customers.

Yes it is too good to be true! 

The prices you see when you go to the BT site are reserved for new customers. If you seek to transfer from EE to BT, they'll identify you as an existing customer of the BT/EE group and offer you "deals" that are significantly more expensive and will likely match, within a £ or two, the price you are currently paying for your EE service.

The "merger" of BT customers to EE was ceased by BT as it was not as "popular" as the bean counters had thought it would be. This has resulted in if you move from BT to EE or from EE to BT you will not be treated as a new customer by either company.
