CCj over BT internet contract ending
Today my step son received a letter from debt agency requesting payment for non payment of his internet, around 2-3 years ago his contract with BT came to an end so he went with EE using the same connection / phone line.
So why has he been asked to pay £174 or baliffs will be sent , 1. his contract ended and boxes were sent back to BT.2. he went with EE using the same telephone cable so there could not have been a BT service running down the same cable.
No Bills have been sent requesting payment.
So does anyone have any advise i can give please

When he moved to EE how did he facilitate the move. Did he cancel BT then move to EE or did he just contact EE and let them carry out the move for him?
He will need to contact the Debt Agency and ask them exactly what the Dept is for and when was it incurred.
Once he has that information he should inform them that he disputes it and should then contact BT Billing 0330.1234.150 and explain the problem to them.

this is a customer help customer community forum and your post does not go to BT
try contacting billing using message now and see if they can help you you will need the old account number

Thanks for reply, as his contract term came to the end and by disconnected him he applied to EE for internet service

Whe a contract term comes to an end, it just reverts to a rolling monthly contract, not disconnection.

If he was disconnected he either cancelled his BT Broadband, in which case he would have had to have given 30 days notice or he would be liable for a fee, usually one months rental if on the 30 day rolling contract or more if his fixed term contract had not ended or he may have been disconnected by BT which usually only happens for non payment of a bill.

Oh ok, so even when Bt were sent the equipment back, and service was stopped by BT and EE used the same line from the exchange to provide there service the rolling contract was still charged

We do not have access to the account or what took place to have caused the debt to be accrued. What has been posted is only speculation about what could possibly have happened so you should do as previously suggested.
What is not speculation is that you do not get a CCJ without being notified that there is a claim against you and being given the chance to defend it.
