Cancel and rejoin BT

Hello, 

My BT broadband contract has ended and have through my personalised offers and I am not happy with the figures quoted.

If I joined as a new customer I can get a lot better deal. 

Can I cancel my current contract wait the 30 days cancellation process and once this has ended can I sign up as a new customer. 

Is there a time period I have to wait before sign up as a new customer.

I am happy with BT service I have had with them for over 20 years and have a couple of BT emails address link to the account I do not want loose.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Instead of cancelling try contacting the BT Retentions Team  0800 783 1401 and see what they can offer.

Do your home work first and see what other providers have to offer. Make sure you compare like for like and if you don't get the deal you want you can always move to another provider.

If you do leave BT your email accounts will be downgraded to the free BTMail Basic account which can only be used on a web browser and not with an email app or email client. If you wanted to use an email app or client you would need to get a BT Premium email account at £750 per month.

Once out of your Fixed Term Contract you move onto a 30 day rolling Contract so you are effectively still in contract. If you wanted to be a new customer you would need to cease your BT Broadband contract which ever that is which would obviously mean you would have no Broadband. 

You could then sign up as a new customer. There is as far as I know no fixed period of time that you must be "away" from BT but as stated, you will have no broadband until you get a "new" start date from BT.

Wow that certainly is a premium account at £750 a month. 

My advice..Ring BT and tell them you want to cancel...9 times out of ten the fear of losing a customer will trigger the best offers.

We have literally just been through this with them this afternoon. Offered a deal twice the price of a new customer after 10+ years. Absolute joke, zero loyalty. However, what they could do was give us a new account with EE that basically matched the price of the BT new customer one, and actually had a few more perks. It's all the same service so no issues there, email addresses carry over apparently. Give retentions a ring and say you want to switch to the best deal on EE. Leaving and coming back as a new customer has a 40 day wait period we were told today.

I was in the same situation last November 

BT's offers to stay after being a customer for decades was ludicrous/ laughable 

Didn't want to lose my brilliant service so initiated a one touch switch to plusnet 

This took 3 days 

On the fourth day l went on the which site and got the new customer deal with BT plus a £150 gift card.

All new broadband contracts have a 14 day cooling off period so leaving plusnet was a breeze 

Had to return the SH2 and was then sent a new smart hub 2.

Which is bizarre as I use my own EE wifi 6 router 

Some might say it's too much messing about but I literally saved hundreds

I’m not so sure it does take 40 days.

Six months ago, I couldn’t get BT to offer a decent price, so I initiate a move to Sky.  Sky screwed this up because they ignored my request for Openreach Full Fibre and sent CityFibre.  Unfortunately, there is a problem with a CityFibre install, (that I was already aware of), and so the install failed.

In the meantime, however, this seems to have provoked BT into making a sensible offer at last, so I cancelled with Sky and stayed with BT.  I’m now paying 55% of what I was and for a faster package.

It seems you have to demonstrate a willingness to actually move to get them to take you seriously.
