Default On Credit File

Hi

I’ve checked my Experian account last night and it has a default registered Jan 2022 - relating to a £13 bill from 2016. I have never received a bill for this amount.

I have also checked MyBT online account and it states I owe nothing - zero!!

I am now being turned down for mortgage due to this issue. I have contacted BT customer services today, but didn’t get through to anyone re: the problem.

I need this resolved as soon as possible and I would be grateful for a conversation with someone in the right department.

 Thanks

@NigelD99

The first thing you need to do is raise a dispute with either Equifax or Experian, depending on who the debt is with. You can do that at

  • Online at www.equifax.co.uk/ask
  • Call 0800 014 2955
  • Address – Equifax Ltd
    • Customer Service Centre
    • PO Box 10036
    • Leicester
    • LE3 4FS

or

  • Online at www.experian.co.uk
  • Call 0344 481 8000
  • Address - Experian Headquarters Talbot House
    • Talbot Street
    • Nottingham
    • N80 1TH

They'll then liaise with BT for you.

Re: Default On Credit File

Thanks for your really quick reply, Keith.

Can I just ask why BT cannot resolve this matter directly if/after they come back to me?

thanks again

Nigel
