New customer moving into a house on the 23rd.
Current owner has FTTP broadband installed.
I just ordered broadband and have down the 23rd for Hub delivery. 25th for Home tech expert visit. But takeover date is the 4th April.
So the question is after the visit 25th to confirm everything is correctly cabled and plugged in.
Will it really take until the 4th for the broadband to activate? Seems like a long gap to just switch account holders.
Or could it happen sooner?

No, it takes that long, and sometimes much longer.
An existing FTTP install can be activated the next working day, because someone lives there and you're taking over, the delay is because a takeover comes with a leadtime to allow the current user to stop the takeover, incase if errors and to prevent slamming.
So if the exisitng home owner tells BT he is moving out on the 23rd and agrees to the takeover. This does not speed the transfer up?

No, that would make it worse, as a cease would have to be completed first, and until that is done, which could take up to 10 days, you would not be able to progress your order.
Provided you have followed the home move process, then the existing owner would be informed of the takeover, and must not take any action to prevent it, otherwise your order will fail.
They must not request a cease, the line takeover will be automatic on the date BT have agreed.
