A couple of other tricks with Gmail:
my.name@gmail.com, m.y.n.a.m.e@gmail.com, and myname@gmail.com all go to the same mailbox - periods are ignored.
You can also use plus-addressing e.g. my.name+mybt@gmail.com and my.name+mybtrecovery@gmail.com will go to the same mailbox too - so you could give every web site a unique version of your email address.
