I'm switching ISP - do I need to let BT know?

Go to solution

The ISP I'm switching to has stated on their website that they'll let BT know, as they both run on Openreach.

Can anyone confirm if this is the case, or do I need to do anything? Also, what do I do with my old Hub?

Your new ISP will inform BT, that is the industry process. Do not contact BT yourself as this will only serve to complicate matters.

You will be informed of any equipment that is liable to be returned and a pre-paid returns bag issued to you in due course.

When will I receive communication from BT to confirm they've received communication about me leaving?

You should receive a "Sorry your leaving" email &/or text a few days after placing the order. If that hasn't arrived within a week of placing the order, I'd suggest contacting Sky to confirm it's going ahead on the scheduled date.

As already said, do not under any circumstances contact BT yourself.

When the gaining providers takeover order is commited, the only exception would be if you're taking a different service, for example if you had BT FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) but moved to another ISP who offered you FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet) or vise versa, then it's not a takeover so you would have to cancel BT manually with 30 days notice.

You're better off asking your new provider for this info, they'll know if the order is a new provide or a takeover of an existing line.
