Letter of Deadlock

Go to solution

Hi. Just wondering how common it is for BT to issue a complainant with a "Letter of Deadlock".

Deadlock letters are pretty standard and highlights their final stance. Once you have a deadlock letter,  you can escalate your complaint to Ombudsman Services or whatever they're called this month

Hi Nigel. I'm afraid that I have no faith in the Communications or any other Ombudsman for that matter. Particularly as they are funded by the company against whom the complaint has been made, which in my humble opinion is unethical, as they can hardly claim to be impartial.

Unfortunately that’s the process even if you don’t like it , a deadlock letter is exactly what it implies, you and the provider are at an impasse and unable to move forward, hence the need for arbitration, you may feel they are not independent but that’s somewhat irrelevant.

With respect and as you are probably already aware, a letter of Deadlock effectively leaves the customer with no option, other than to involve the Communications Ombudsman. In this instance, it was issued as a direct response to my formal request for information, reference the numerous faults that had been logged with my service. Intriguingly, BT deliberately withheld this data from me, for three months, until after the Ombudsman had completed their enquiry. Although this is in clear breach of their regulations, the ICO chose to ignore it and I have since discovered, that BT are serial offenders. Incidentally, a similar information request made to the Communications Ombudsman, revealed that BT had also deliberately withheld this incriminating fault data, from their enquiry. Intriguingly, BT have since chosen to ignore the Ombudsman’s instruction, to revert my package to its former status, whilst insisting that I either adhere to my 24-month contract or pay their exorbitant release fees. Although the Communication Ombudsman is fully aware of my predicament, they have also chosen not to get involved. Food for thought.
