BT have made a mess of my house move. Despite informing BT (before we moved out of our old home) that we had not exchanged contracts on our new address, BT have changed my address to a property I do not own. I am currently in temporary accommodation and BT will not cancel the change that they have made. Neither will they let me use my temporary address.
Using the online BT complaint system, and many hours spent on the 150 number has not resolved this.
Their refusal to correct their records is a clear breach of GDPR.
There are 2 possible options :
1 - Your billing address changed and the installation address remains the same, billing addresses can be anywhere in the UK you have access to receive bills, you can update that yourself via MyBT
2 - Your services were moved to the new address, if you're not living there and don't require service you can cancel the account with 30 days notice, if you're within a minimum term contract there would be early termination fees.
Is there a reason you can't have services at the temp address ? you might have to pay to have an extra line installed but it's possible, it might not be worth doing for the time you'll spend there.
1 I can't change my billing address or my site address in My BT. It is not showing as an option, presumably because my contract no longer exists. (they have asked for return of equipment).
2 There is no contract to cancel as it has been terminated by BT (against my wishes).
3 A temporary line is not an option. We don't know when we will complete as the conveyancers are arguing with each other. If we are homeless much longer we will have to move to a cheaper hotel or a camp site.
