My BT contract is up for renewal on June 1st this year...Broadband and TV.

After many years I have decided to call it a day and change supplier for both options. 

What date should I formally advise BT of my decision, and should that be written or by calling  ?

You don't inform them at all. Just sign up with your new provider and they do what is necessary.

Thanks,  I thought they wanted 30 days notice.

probably get new ISP mid May should be fine and contract will be ending by time of switch
