Re: Broadband cost

I am coming to the end of my contract with BT in 3 June, I have been with Halo for 2 years, I have heard that it is difficult to get away from Halo, they are trying to offer me BT Halo 150 Broadband only for £43.99 per month or BT Halo 500 for £47.99 per month. The advisor at BT has put a request in to unlock further deals without Halo but this was one week ago and BT will not unlock the deals without Halo. This is my point BT try to keep you with Halo to charge you extra costs. The only way I can think of getting a cheaper deal is go with another company and then return back to BT in 2 years time for better deals. This is a ridiculous way of going around it. I can get Full Fibre in my street now and Sky are offering Full Fibre 500 for £23 per month because I've just been on the comparison website. Why do BT make it so difficult with this Halo business, they will only land up loosing a lot of customers. I worked for a telecommunication company 10 years ago and it was so easy to take customers away from BT because they will not budge on their prices. There are so many competitors about these days offering good prices. They all use Open reach which is an independent company that service Sky, Talk Talk, Plus Net, Vodafone, EE. BT is just a billing platform. I will wait another week to see if they can unlock any deals without Halo, they reckon they are escalating the request, but if nothing comes about, I will be looking elsewhere.

Re: Broadband cost

@Mckin123  It really isn't that difficult to get out of a Halo contract once you have come to the end of your present 2 year contract. You call BT and you TELL them to drop you off Halo if it isn't what you want. No ifs, not buts, you're the customer. Be assertive.

You've done your research and you've found broadband cheaper. BT I can probably bet, will not, cannot, match £23 a month for 500mb broadband. So it's up to you, pay double the price and stick with what you know, or make a break.

Often, once you initiate a switch, BT will undoubtedly start calling you with different offers, it just depends on whether you fancy being hounded with loads of phone calls that you are prepared to answer.

You say that swapping ISP every couple of years is a ridiculous way of seeking out cheaper deals? well it really isn't, it just depends on whether you are the sort of person who isn't prepared to put up with all the haggling. Personally, it doesn't bother me, it takes ten minutes if you're on FTTP to switch online and if you're not reliant on BT's email service and you don't need a landline, then it's a quick process that often bags a decent Rewards Card.

Be aware though, you can't swap to EE who are BT, as a new customer, you can't get any rewards incentives because they won't treat you as a new customer. You can however swap to Plusnet and you will be treated as a new customer and you'll remain part of the BT Group of companies. Obviously if you have BT mail, you will have to pay for it if you require Premium at £7.50 a month, or downgrade to Basic for free. Also, Plusnet don't do landlines any more.

At the end of the day, the ball is definitely in your court come renewal time. You can make it as easy or as difficult as you wish.

Re: Broadband cost

You have to demonstrate that you will carry out with a threat to switch to a different isp to unlock deals.

I did, after getting a BT “Sorry You Are Thinking of Leaving” email the Stevenage team let me drop Halo for vanilla FF900 for less than the price comparison websites.

I did this 2 weeks ago, your ymmv as to what you get offered.
