Re: Renewing contract online (without Halo)

Hi,

im currently with BT and have the Halo 3 with fibre package and receive 44 mb download speed for the cost of £60 pm.  I feel like I’m paying over the odds, does this sound about right to people?
Virgin media have started providing broadband in my area and can offer me 1 gigabit download speed for around £30 pm.  It sounds like a no brainer to switch to Virgin media surely.
I’ve been with BT for over 20 years and feel disappointed that so called loyal customers are treated this way.
does anyone else feel like it pays to remain loyal these days?
thanks.

Re: Renewing contract online (without Halo)

If you renew online you'll be stuck with your current charge - or one that's higher still.
Once you're on Halo (which is a BT trick to make existing customers pay much more for their broadband than new customers do - despite BT's claim that this never happens), BT make it almost impossible to downgrade to a cheaper non-Halo deal, such as is offered to new customers.
The only way to achieve such a downgrade is by phoning the sales line and being prepared for a lengthy discussion with a sales rep who is on commission NOT to downgrade you. You'll probably have to threaten to leave BT to get anywhere.
It's a shoddy way to treat loyal customers but apparently all ISPs now operate like this, so I guess BT has to be the same.

Re: Renewing contract online (without Halo)

I am exactly in your position with Halo 3 but am paying £51 per month. Seems that prices are negotiable and the tariffs tables are pure fantasy. I was offered Fibre 300 for £44 last March. I am also toiling moving to Virgin after 46 years with BT!

@chrisjp   No, they don't have to do it.  They choose to do it, but otherwise, I fully agree with you.

Re: Renewing contract online (without Halo)

@shopps - I must be completely off my head. Been involved with family hospital issues for months and have taken my eye off the ball. Out of contract for over a year and paying through the nose.

Can anyone beat this amazing deal? I doubt it......

Also can anyone find the new customer Halo 3+ prices listed online?

The only thing that made me come back to this forum, was that BT keep placing orders without my knowledge to install Digital Voice.

Re: Renewing contract online (without Halo)

This is the latest price guide but it is likely the prices for new customers would be lower but you wouldn't get them as an existing customer  https://www.bt.com/content/dam/bt/storefront/pdfs/BT_PhoneTariff_Residential.pdf

You could ring the retentions team to get an offer. Best to know what other providers prices are to help with any haggling  0800 783 1401.
