My contract fibre 2 (50 meg) + PAYG line finishes in a month, had a nice email saying I can renew at same price.
Indeed when I log on and look at offers I get a nice pink banner on the package which says "Renew at same price".
I'm interested in renewing as Openreach have my road closed in two months and I get a 'free' upgrade to FTTP. I'm scheduled sometime in the next year.
When I go to check out it wants to charge me an extra £3 for the PAYG phone line. (not forgetting the March increase as well)
Help line says I have to pay the extra £3 for the new contract If I don't renew in the next few days I'll also lose the £5 discount I have enjoyed so potentially "renew at the same price" is another £8 a month.
So when is renew at the same price not renew at the same price?
I found that "Renew at the same price" actually meant renew at the same price minus any hidden discounts that you've been enjoying plus a little bit extra to account for inflation and the new price will be £20+ per month more than our competitors who will offer for a superior product which we'll tell you isn't available in the hope you'll blindly renew out of panic...
I didn't panic and left 🤣
