Upgrading package but no option for non direct debt payment

Our broadband package has run out and we need to upgrade. Went through the set up and chose a new package and extras, but when coming to the check out, we can only pay with diret debt, even though it says we can carry on our normal payment method.

Anyway to sort this out or do I have to call someone. I know BT along with every company wants people on Direct debt but some people still want to have control over their payments.

What 'control' do you want? Either you pay the bill or you don't.

I understand the reluctance about direct debits. Some people prefer having to take positive action every 3 months to pay their bill, rather than have BT automatically taking it from their bank account.
I think that's what the OP means about wanting to have control

The bill has to be paid, why faff about remembering to pay it when it can be paid automatically?

I think the option to pay via a monthly payment plan is no longer available and the only option now is to pay monthly and the easiest way to do that is by Direct Debit. Direct Debit is over seen by your bank which means if BT take the wrong amount it will be reimbursed by the bank.

Personally I can't think of a better way to pay a utility bill other than by Direct Debit. In the case of BT you receive about 8 days advance notice of the amount they are going to take by direct debit (it is shown on your bill). I have used direct debit for very many years and there as not been one instance of an incorrect amount taken in error or otherwise.  Paying by direct debit mean there to chance of overlooking payment by the due date,

It is interesting to see the many ways you can pay your BT bill as shown in How can I pay my BT bill? | BT Help
