Urgent Removal of late/missed payment on credit file

Go to solution

We have been customers of BT since 2020, every bill has been paid and we have a balance of 0 and our account has closed now since moving over to utility warehouse.

in August our direct debits weren’t setting up so we had to keep paying our bill via the app using Apple Pay. We paid our bill, but it went onto an inactive account we had, therefore not paying our active accounts bill, once realised, we paid our bill and requested transfer/refund from old account. This sadly went down as a marker on my husbands credit file for August showing at late/missed.

We have great credit, but due to the market being less than 6 months old our mortgage lender is saying no! We’ve asked BT if they can please remove the marker as our account is paid up and closed; and it was a genuine error.

Still waiting for any update from BT credit team, please can this be updated asap with Experian because it’s the only thing hindering us buying our first property for our family with our 2 little boys and mortgage lender is only giving us a period of time to sort it before the application gets pulled.

please help, we’re beside ourselves and desperate for it to be removed so we can move forward with our house purchase.

Ironically, we wanted to go back to BT too once we’d bought our property as we found the speeds better than UW ☹️

Basically, after doing a Google search, several customers have posted on this forum with similar stories. You might have to raise some form of complaint but as you’ve already admitted, ultimately it was your fault due to it seems your own administrative error and not BT’s. You might need to contact the credit reference agencies yourself.

Hi,

yes it was my fault due to paying to the wrong account, but once we had realised we rent BT who incorrectly informed us that they could transfer the money to the active account; which never happened so it went down as a late payment.

@Satch51

Fully understand that, but have you contacted the credit reference agencies yourself to explain what happened? or are you expecting BT to make the effort to do so on your behalf?

The upshot is, this is a customer to customer forum, the only BT employees that come here are the Moderators who may or may not be able to assist you and they don’t even have access to customer accounts. No one else here can help you I’m afraid.

I’ve read previous similar questions with the moderators helping, so that’s why I’m asking as I’ve seen moderators helping on these topics!

@Satch51

With much respect, you’ve been given all the appropriate advice available. As explained, Moderators don’t have access to customer accounts so I’m not sure how you think one would be able to help you?

I appreciate you feel that you’re in a desperate situation, but you still haven’t answered the question about whether or not you have contacted the credit reference agencies yourself? That’s where you need to start I think.

Hello @Satch51

Welcome to the community.

We no longer have account access here on the community so we are unable to chase this for you.

Did customer care provide you with a timescale for a response from the credit team?

If you have not received a timescale I would recommend giving us a call to see if there is an update.

Alternatively, follow the steps previously provided by our community super users.

Hope this is sorted for you soon.

Katie
