To get an answer, you'll need to clarify a bit.  Are you talking "landline" or mobile?

Landline rental used to be £3 a month.  I think it is £5 for new customers now.  Of course, the phone call would be on top of that.  That will be in the tariff.

Mine's currently £13 but it's something else I've not renegotiated for a while.  I think I saw an offer for £9 a month a while back.

@cfr

If you shop around, you can get pay monthly mobile with EU roaming and 10 gb a month, for £1.70 a month for the first 7 months. I know, I do it all the time. I never pay more than 20 quid a year for my mobile pay monthly SIM, but then I never use more than 10gb a month in data.

Re: monthly pay as you go

O2's pay as you go mobile deal is £10/month with a generous enough data allowance that I never exceed it. So the figures quoted for EE are in the same ball park.
With all pay as you go deals you do need to remember to keep enough credit in your account to cover the £10 that is auto-debited each month.
