Whilst I have had no contact from BT in respect of my similar incident, the BT App is now working correctly. 

I have not changed anything and don't believe there has been any app update, so assume they have been able to correct whatever the issue was their end.

App was still failing earlier today.  I'll do a reboot of phone and tablet and try later

Yes, appears to be working now.. different to lunchtime when I tried it
