BTCloud 21.12.15 not working on older Windows 10 Laptop

I note that older versions of BT Cloud software are automatically updating to version 21.12.15...  This is fine for my 2 desktop PCs, running Windows 10 and 11 (Pro 64 bit).  However, I noticed that BT Cloud had stopped working on my old laptop (Intel Core2 Duo CPU P8600 @ 2.40GHz, 8 GB RAM).  So, I clean loaded it with Windows 10 v21H2), but still BT Cloud 21.12.15 would not play ball.

I found the solution, was to load a an older version of the software (21.4.10).  This version works fine, that is, until it gets automatically updated to version 21.12.15.  At this point I uninstall 21.12.15 and reinstall 21.4.10 and I'm back in business...  but only until its replaced again with 21.12.15!

It feels like I'm fighting a losing battle here.  Can anyone possibly suggest a way forward (other than by a new laptop)?

Well, it's 4 months since I posted this issue and no replies, let alone an offer of a solution from anyone in the community or BT tech, who I thought monitored these posts from time to time?

For anyone that's interested, the fix (or more correctly, 'workaround') is as follows:

Fortunately, I'd kept a couple of previous versions of the BTCloud install files, and through trial and error, discovered that BTCloud 21.4.10 worked without any issues.

Unfortunately, the software gets updated, as soon as you log out of that session, but at least you can revert back to the working version by reinstalling the above version (no need to uninstall the current version first).

This solution is hardly ideal, but at least it allows me to re-synch local files on my old laptop when I need to.  Fixing the problem (in the current software) would be a better solution...  I can but hope!

I feel your pain. Well my 21.12.15 version stopped working about a month or so ago on a Win10 21H2 laptop. Tried all the usual stuff. Checked the image etc, multiple reinstalls of the App. But still no joy. I have raised as an issue. But like most BT Cloud issues there’s not a lot of commitment from BT. I have issues with an Android phone as well. Lots of promises that it’s being dealt with. But 4-5 months down the line from my original cloud issue there’s precious little progress.

Given the lack of replies on this forum I often wonder if anyone actually uses the app. Or is it so good that there’s no issues, and it’s just me?

Thanks for acknowledging this issue...  it's good to know that it's not just me!

I too, am running Windows 10 21H2 on this old laptop, and all other applications work just fine.  My son tried loading BTCloud on his Android phone too, but found it so clunky and unreliable, that he uninstalled it the following day and went back to using Dropbox, which incidentally, also works faultlessly on this old laptop.

IMHO, BT should thoroughly test their new versions of software, on a range of different devices and operating systems before releasing them...  or at least give people the option to continue using older versions of the software, until they've fixed all the bugs!

Good News! I had a call with a tier 2 customer advisor and they’ve just sent a new software version for the desktop. It’s 22.8.10.

It installs and runs okay.  Apparently it was released in September. Well I never got it. And the web version of BT Cloud is still offering the old broken version 21.12.15.

So not sure what’s going on there. 

All that time wasted trying to get the old version working. Won’t get that back again!

Sorry but I’m not sure how you’ll get it. Perhaps you could ring BT and ask for the update directly?

Oh, just noticed this lunchtime that version 22.8.10 is available for download from the BT Cloud website.

Thanks for persevering with this one.  I ran the old version one last time, then it updated to the latest version (22.8.10) and it's 'good news' indeed... IT WORKS!

As you say, I don't know why they left the old 'buggy' version up there (as the only one available to download) for so long.  Perhaps I should have contacted them myself.

On a positive note, I do use BTCloud on laptops and a couple desktop PCs in 'Sync' mode for music, documents etc. plus a couple of websites and I have to say that it works quite well these days.  In the past I've had a few issues with 'conflicted files' but nowadays, it seems to be much more reliable.  The 'online' version however is still very clunky... e.g., insisting on uploading everything to the root (which then has to be moved to the correct folder), but hopefully this may improve over time?
