Do I download?

Go to solution

I am no longer a BT broadband subscriber but have retained my BT email address. Some time ago I lost all the contents of my subfolders and have learnt that this has happened to many people.

Now I see that I have to download files before the 31 st.

I have an iMac and in my mail section I see ;  BT Internet, Smart Mailboxes, and iCloud. I presume the latter is Apple iCloud?

Does this download apply to my PC?

If I  download the files will the contents of the sub folders reappear?

If  I don't download these files will I still be able to use my BT email address?

My subfolders are empty at the moment and once I have read my email they disappear from my Inbox as well.

I really would appreciate help, please, as there's little time left now.

My THANKS in advance.

Mary

Re: Do I download?

Your BTMail account and its contents has nothing to do with BTCloud. They are two completely separate systems.

None of your BTMail files will be deleted when BTCloud closes.

As regards your emails going missing after you have read them. That would appear to be an issue with how you have your email account set up and how you access it.

Thank you so much for your help ;  much appreciated. Yes, I believe the subfolder contents have disappeared as a result of changed mail settings. I need to remedy this.

I have checked email account and it is verified by Apple as being installed correctly. so disappearance of subfolder contents is still a mystery. 😞

Re: Do I download?

Hey there @Maryemm, welcome to the BT Community Forums!

Based on what you've mentioned here, am I right in thinking you're accessing your BT Emails via the built in Mail App for your iMac?

If that's correct, can you please try logging into BT Webmail and see if the missing folders return there?

As @gg30340 mentioned, this sounds like it may be linked to how the the Mail app is syncing with your email account.

Sadly. contents missing from subfolders on the BT email also.

When I Googled for help when this first happened I found countless there with the same problem and no resolution.

Now when I leave my mail programme, which is the built-in programme for my iMac, all the email in the Inbox disappear. I have to copy an paste messages to refer to later in my Pages!

had to leave BT as a subscriber when I moved home and for five years have had no trouble.

Thank you for your suggestion.

Thanks for checking that for me, @Maryemm.

Have you tried checking the trash for your emails in case the contents of these folders has been moved automatically?

Re: Do I download?

Thanks @Maryemm, from what you've described here it sound like these emails may have been stored locally when you downloaded them to your mail app, but not within the BT Cloud servers.

If you have previously synced emails via IMAP then switched to POP3, this downloads them direct to your device, so they will only be stored in the one location.

I have not changed any settings.   Has BT changed from POP3 to IMAP early recently?
