Norton M1 Mac Not Updating

I have an M1 MacBook with Norton running on it.

Live update will not connect and update with a constant live update failed.

Mac running os Monterey 12.3.1 and Norton version is 8.7.4

How do I get my Norton updated?

Thanks

Re: Norton M1 Mac Not Updating

Hi, @Kielty23 welcome to the community and thanks for posting, I'm sorry to see you're experiencing problems updating Norton. Please can you try these steps and let me know if they help?

STEP 1 - RESTART YOUR COMPUTER

  1. Exit all programs
  2. Restart your computer

STEP 2 - RUN LIVEUPDATE

  1. Start Norton

If you see the My Norton window, next to Device Security, click Open.

  2. In the main window, double-click Security, and then click LiveUpdate
  3. When Norton LiveUpdate is finished, click OK
  4. Run LiveUpdate until you see the message, "Your Norton product has the latest protection updates."

If the problem persists, go to Step 3.

STEP 3 - CONFIGURE LIVEUPDATE TO AUTOMATICALLY DETECT SETTINGS

  1. Start Norton

If you see the My Norton window, next to Device Security, click Open.

  2. Click Settings
  3. In the Settings window, click Administrative Settings
  4. Under Administrative Settings, next to Network Proxy Settings, click Configure
  5. In the Network Proxy Settings window, under Automatic Configuration, check Automatically detect settings
  6. Click Apply and then click OK
  7. Click Close
  8. Run LiveUpdate again

Thanks

Neil

Re: Norton M1 Mac Not Updating

Hi, thanks for this. Step 3 does not have these options for Norton on the Mac.

It has however updated itself now. Manually running live update regularly doesn't work too well.

Thanks for your input.

Re: Norton M1 Mac Not Updating

Does the Norton anti-virus software work on a Mac?

I cannot download virus definitions updates and when I try to get it to "clean" the Mac it scans the system and shows a figure but no matter how long I leave it on the cleaning never seems to achieve anything.

I believe one definition of madness is to do the same thing over and over again and expect a different result each time.  I am getting dangerously close to that!!

I wonder if I might be better off just uninstalling it.
