Norton rejecting Intel Driver Update as infected.

Go to solution

I am trying to install the latest Intel Driver: 32.0.101.8247 (WHQL Certified)

Norton does not permit this saying it contains a virus, the advice from the Intel Community Forum is to turn off Norton and then install the driver. I am nervous about doing this and would welcome any advice.

Why ask on here, it will just be the opinion of random posters with no more information (probably less)  than either the Intel or Norton communities.

The Norton Community do not recognise me as a BT customer, so where else am I supposed to ask?

I think I would take the word of the Intel community over some random bloke posting on here.

Just search the Norton community, no need to post anything.

Norton Community showed nothing on this. I followed the Intel Community advice and the installation worked and a Norton Full Scan showed no viruses afterwards.

A quick Google search reveals other AVs objecting to this update and that Intel are investigating why this happening.

Personally, I would hold off installing the update until Intel have discovered what is going on.

Edit: too late

Patience would have been a virtue here and I eventually noticed it was not just Norton detecting the problem.  The Intel community is suggesting this is a false positive, several members have successfully applied the update by turning off their anti-virus. There have reported no subsequent issues. Hopefully this is a one off and Intel will learn from this.
