I have just ended my BT  Contract .

i was told to keep the BT TV box 

can I still

use it to get free channels

If you are told that you don't have to return it, you can still use it to get Freeview channels.

You will loose the Now TV channels etc but you can sign up to the app to get those if required.

Recordings of free channels will still play, but any recordings from the Now channels and other BT/EE channels will not.

If you are staying with BT/EE for broadband, you will still see the Now, etc., channels in the EPG, but you won’t be able to access them.

If you sign up directly for any memberships with Now, you can still watch those on the Now app on the YouView box, but bear in minds that this app doesn’t support subtitles.

If you sign up directly for any memberships with Now, start the process of cancelling them. You will almost certainly get offered a significant discount to stay. Nobody needs to pay full price for Now except the first month for new signups, and BT/EE customers 😛
