BT/EE TV mini box surround sound issue

Go to solution

Was looking at the surround sound output from the mini box and have seen some odd issues...

The box should, I believe, output Dolby Digital Plus audio (mostly 2.0 or 5.1). However, whilst the box can occasionally do this, it seems to output multi channel pcm often. I tried disabling eARC on my TV (reverting to standard ARC) which seemed to restore the DD+ signal. (Given that the eARC setting is configured to "passthrough", it should not make a difference.)

I decided to bring the box downstairs and plug into the main TV and A/V Receiver. Interestingly, unlike the main TV Pro box, the audio received was multichannel pcm, not DD+.

Is this a known issue?

@DarrenDev  Hope you had a good festive break? I raised this one whilst you were out. Would be good to get your view on this.

It's interesting that you're complaining about it doing something that most other users complained that the TV Box Pro doesn't do.

I coincidentally received an update this morning telling me that the surround sound channel tagging issues that were fixed on the TV Box Pro a few months ago, are still in the queue to be applied to the firmware on the TV Box Mini.

My question to you though, is what's the issue?  What difference are you noticing between DD+ and multichannel PCM?  If it's related to odd audio channel behaviour (e.g. not correctly identifying stereo content, and outputting it from all speakers) then this is the known issue awaiting fix.

@DarrenDev Resolved this one. Turned out the TV had for itself confused. By forcing the sound output through eArc to output as Dolby Digital Plus, then resetting back to auto, correct output was restored.
