BT TV Box Pro and TV aerial

Go to solution

If we connect a TV aerial to the BT TV Box pro, can we still access BT sport, apps and other subscribed channels through the TV Box?

Yes of course.

You have2 options with the Pro box , 1 is to use the TV aerial for the free to view channels with subscription & catchup coming via the internet and 2 use just the internet for all , called IP mode I think, so no aerial connected.

Thankyou.

Currently have it Internet mode only but as we are only connected via WiFi and the signal isn't alway strong enough to the tv, we keep loosing channels alot and cannot watch anything. I'm thinking even if I got a new aerial installed to the house and connected it to the tv box would it be better.  Just wasn't sure if I could do both.

If you Wifi is weak while using IP mode - then switching to aerial will not help with non-Freeview channels.

Means BT channels will still drop out.

I would call BT to get the Wifi sorted out.

Note that you will have to exit IP mode in order to receive free to air channels over the air, this will require that you factory reset the box and repeat the setup procedure.

Maybe a solution would be to use Powerline Adapters , one by the SmartHub and on by the Pro box & use ethernet rather than wifi. Depends on your mains circuitry though, can work quite well.

BT are sending out bt mini connectors however we don't have any free ethernet ports on the back of the hub to connect it to.  I had wondered if I connected the complete wifi disc directly to the tv box via ethernet would it work any better?

Definitely worth a try.

A simple 5-port switch like a TP-Link TL-SG105 would add some extra ports to the SmartHub.
