My BT/EE TV box is connected to the internet via wired ethernet because the WiFi signal is weak where the box is.
I have the EE TV app on my phone, which is connected to the box; I can set programmes to record and see recorded programmes.
I now want to connect a tablet to the box. When I try to connect the app to the box, it can't find it. It seems to only search on WiFi.
I don't remember how I connected my phone app to the box; it was a while ago. Do I have to connect the box to WiFi to connect the app and then switch it back to the wired connection?
Solved! Go to Solution.
The EETV app, on iOS at least, uses broadcast to discover the box, it wouldnt matter if its wireless or wired, the only thing that matters is when you are trying to add a box to the app you need to be within the same network as it because broadcast wont find something on a different network.
So if you are connected to a wireless network serving a different subnet (ip range) than the box is on, it wont find it, say the iPad is connected to some different wireless network and the EETV box is not.
You just add the box via the app I think, in the settings bit then 'TV Box', the phone finds it then you have to approve via the box remote from memory.
Perhaps the limitation is how many apps can control the box, is it one? I dont know.
I did read over on EE that sometimes if you cant discover the box powering it off and on works....
You can have up to 4 devices registered on an account to allow a very limited number of channels to be watched via the EETV app. I think this includes the TNT Sports and Eurosport channels and Discovery channel and possibly the Asian channels?( I don’t subscribe to those though).
As far as being able to set recordings from the app is concerned, I wouldn’t be surprised that this is restricted to a single device, but I don’t know for sure. Almost unbelievably the email address that you used to be able to contact Mr Dev about tv apps on has been closed since he left the company!
If you want to pair the Box with your tablet, you will have to unpair it from the phone first.
The tablet, when you are looking to pair, is listening out for a Mr Humphreys-like “I’m free!” which will never come from an already-paired Box 😛

There you go then, 1 device per box.
That’s interesting. However, with our 2 Pro tv boxes I’ve got 1 paired with my phone and the other paired to my iPad so that I can easily remember which box is which. I don’t really want to keep an ear out for Mr Humphries, so I think that I’ll leave things be.
Thanks, this was the clue I needed.
The box is wired via ethernet to the BT hub, but the tablet was connected to the house WiFi mesh network.
I connected the tablet to the BT hub WiFi and the app found the box and connected to it with no trouble.

Ahh great.
Maybe turn off the WIFI on the hub and put the MESH WIFI within the same LAN as the hub, because you may find that when back on the MESH you wont be able to find the box again even though its added. Maybe its all on the same subnet already and the broadcast just wasnt making it through for a different reason.
I remembered this when you posted because my EETV is on a different LAN and I had to enable mDNS repeater to hand over broadcasts on one network to the other, although I doubt you can enable this on the hub.
