Freeview channels

Go to solution

Hi, our previous ten year old tv was connected to a standard outdoor aerial with a booster and a Freeview box ( plus a Roku stick for the streaming apps ) we got all the Freeview channels with no problems.  Since the tv died and we bought a new Toshiba tv, the aerial won't pick up anything, which is how I came to upgrade our BT package and get the BT box, which obviously just uses the Wi-Fi . Do I understand it correctly, that unless we get someone to come and fit a new aerial, which I could attach a Freeview box to, there are certain Freeview channels that we will never get ( specifically in this instance, Talking Pictures TV, channel 82 ) ?

Thanks

Les

You are correct @Dyserthbloke.

When you set up the BT TV Pro box you either plug in an aerial and get the Freeview delivered channels for your area, or you do not, in which case you get the BT delivered range of IPTV "free to air" channels which are listed here.

Hi, thanks. That's what I thought but wanted to check in case I was missing something.  😞

Just couldn't figure out why the new "smart" tv couldn't pick up any channels from an aerial which worked fine for the previous tv. 🤔

The vagaries of Freeview signal, different TVs means different tuners on board, some can be more overly sensitive than others, you can even have too strong a signal which means you can receive less channels on some devices than on others.

Would recommend a visit from a local aerial expert if you want to utilise your current set up.

I had a rant about the date being last August when they updated the list for the new channel names last week, and someones taken notice it seems woohoo

  • @Dyserthbloke Seems odd that you can’t pick up any  Freeview channels through your aerial. Is the booster on the aerial mast or next to the TV? If by the TV have you tried bypassing the booster and plugging the aerial  directly? If it’s on the mast, is its power supply working okay. ( The power supply that feeds it should be a little warm if you touch it). Just a thought.

Re: Freeview channels

Hi, the booster is by the tv and, before we got the BT box, had a power supply and the aerial cable then went into the Freeview box. Kept this setup for the new Tv but a channel scan could find absolutely nothing. I rang the Toshiba helpline but they couldn't offer anything other than to suggest a new aerial.  Thanks anyway.

Not clear if you've tried the aerial straight into the TV rather than via a Freeview/BT box?

If you have, just wondering if the TV also has a satellite receiver & your scanning the wrong input.
