Email account temporarily locked

After the debacle yesterday trying to get access to emails i now find that this morning my email account has been locked for some reason. What is going on?

It came up in red writing on the new log in page "Account temporarily locked". I did go back the day after and had to do the prove you are human exercise and it has let me log in since then.
