Email app not working

Hoping someone can help! - I'm unable to send or receive emails on the app. My BT, well talk21, account works perfectly when I access via my desk top. But the app on my iPhone 13 Pro Max, after years without any issues has recently failed to work. First of all I couldn't send emails although I still received them, then a few weeks later I couldn't send an email either.   

When I try to refresh the inbox I receive an error message:

'Cannot Connect to the Server for "Talk 21". Mail can try to repair these settings. '

When I select the repair option, I receive a further error message:

'Cannot Get Mail. The mail server "mail.btinternet.com" is not responding. Verify that you have entered the correct account info in Mail settings.' 

I haven't changed any Mail settings in all the years I've been using the app. I've tried switching off my internet and switching back on 30 minutes later but this didn't have any effect.  When I go into the Mail field in Settings everything looks normal. I've got a Premium BT email account if that's worth anything.

Any solutions out there?

Are you using the format user.name.t21@btinternet.com as your email address in your email app settings? 

If not try using that instead of the @talk21.com address.

If you are using it it is probably a BT server problem. The best advice when it happens is to do nothing, especially do not change passwords or delete the account from your device as that can cause more problems than it solves.

The first thing to do when it happens is check to see if you can log on to your email account via a web browser. As you have already done that and you can use your account it obviously means there is  nothing wrong with your password or account hence the advice to do nothing.

You should wait a day or two to see if it resolves its self and if not post back for further help/advice.

I've been having this problem for about six weeks so it's an established thing, its happened whenever an email has arrived throughout that period. The last email I received via the app was on 24-July-24 and I receive 30 to 40 emails a day which I access via a web browser.  

I don't use the btinternet.com email address in the app so I will try to find out what that is and then follow your advice.  However, I'm not sure where to record it in the app. Do I go to: Settings > Mail > Accounts > Talk 21 > Account Settings > Email  > add another Email > then record the btinternet address in this field?
