Thanks for your response but because of your request I looked on each device for settings. I had done the tablet and Chromebook before but doubled checked settings. Nowhere to be seen!

However, on my phone - hey presto! A setting that let me switch it on and off.

So although I need little else your query, perhaps inadvertently, set me on the correct road.

@Andy27 no worries, I'm glad you got there in the end. Depending on the device and email client you're using the instructions can vary especially if you are using the pre-installed email client that came with the device.
