Repeated password request for deleted email address.

Go to solution

I have deleted an email address recently because of unwanted spam but keep getting password requests as below. I have several email BT accounts and don't want to jeopardise them in the process. When I enter my password (as I remember it) I get the 2nd message. Probably because the email address doesn't exist anymore. Can I not just clear it all?

Its a problem with your device/app not BT. You haven't deleted the account fully and the device is still trying to connect to it.

If you have deleted the email account why are you trying to log into it?

It seems that the message was repeating itself because of an email I had sent earlier and was stuck for some reason in my outbox. Eventually it went and the message disappeared. Don't know why the delay.

I am confused why my defunct email address should be on the message box though. I also notice that whenever I am choosing a sender name on a new email my deleted address shows as a choice. How can that be when I have deleted all references to it? Or thought I had! Both on my Mac and at BT.

I am not. That is the problem. That email address has been deleted. I think it is possibly just seeing the use of BTInternet as the host. Just a thought. No idea really!

The address is still extant somewhere on one of your devices.

The fact that you discovered a mail in the outbox shows that you haven't deleted the account or it wouldn't have been possible for you to have seen that. The outbox wouldn't have existed.

Ok accepted and thanks. So how do I find the offending address? It has been deleted at BT and on my Mac mail. However I have two backup external drives, could that be an answer? What format would it be? I can do a search but every file and document with this email address saved in any format would show wouldn't it. I appreciate your help but i'm lost on this.

Just thought. I have an Apple app called Keychain which auto saves passwords. I will check this as there might still be a reference to this offending email address.

Just checked Keychain and there is 40 entries for this email address relating to some login access etc. I am reluctant to delete any at the moment. Any ideas?

Were you using your email account on more than one device and if so were you using an email client/app to access the email account that you deleted.

If you did and you may have forgotten to remove the account from the device and it is probable that it is still polling the email account looking for new emails and as the account is now deleted from the BT servers it obviously will not find it and as such will post the message.
