Hi all
Sorry about first post
Pressed wrong key
My problem is as follows
I have been updated to Digital Voice means I have had to give up my SmartHub 5 in favour of SmartHub2
With the Smarthub 5 I had it hard wired to my laptop and everything worked OK
By OK I mean that the Windows Live Email software has worked great for many years
However when the SmartHub 2 is hard wired I cannot receive any Emails!!
The "Checking Emails " comes up on the screen BUT nothing happens until a Timed Out message appears
and I am asked if I want to Wait or Stop
This can go on forever so eventually I give up
Has anyone any experience of the SmartHub 2 which could explain this behaviour and how I mightfix it?
Thank you
Regards and best wishes
Edward
Your ethernet cable need to be in port 1/3 not 4 and then connected to your laptop. Assuming you have FTTC you need to go to hub manager setting and change FTTP toggle to off to allow you to use port 4
Hi
Thanks for your reply
There are four ethernet connections but only three are usable at present as one ofthem is marked WAN
You are correct in that we are FTTC so as you say to use the WAN we need to change it
The cable connecting to the laptop is in PORT 2
I have used an ethernet cable to the laptop when I had the SmartHub 5 and it worked perfectly for several years
So I need to understand the difference between the ethernet Ports on the SmartHub 5 and the SmartHub 2

There is absolutely no difference whatsoever.
Presumably everything else works ok?
At the moment with FTTC your Hub 2 is connected from the phone master socket to the hub's grey socket marked broadband but if you were on FTTP your hub would be connected by it's WAN port to an Openreach ONT box.
Once you switch off FTTP in your hub settings as @imjolly has said, the WAN becomes a LAN & you'll have 4 LAN ports that as @licquorice says are no different from your hub 5 LAN sockets.
Hi @efelstead Have you tried 1. Reboot the hub and 2. Factory reset the hub (remember to save your contacts first to restore)?
Hello every body and Thank you for you suggestions!!
I have some news
I remembered a problem I had in the past with my SmartTV which would not work with Ethernet but did work withWiFi
So I disconnected the Ethernet cable and rebooted the laptop
I then attempted to receive emails and HEY PRESTO after about 60secs 20emails landed in my Inbox!!!
Two hours later I tried again with just Wifi and it worked again!!
Any suggestions as to reasons for this most welcome

Edward
Any suggestions as to why WiFi appears to work but Ethernet does'nt!!
Thank you for your
A faulty Ethernet cable?
Hi all
I have been running tests on two different machines
One running Windows 7 and the other Windows 10
There is a significant difference in the performance of the two machines in Upload speed using Ethernet connections
The Windows 7 machine (The one giving problems) gives Ethernet Upload speeds <1Mbs
The Windows 10 machine gives Ethernet Upload speeds 18-20Mbs
Both machines are usingthe same BT Smart Hub 2 and the same cabling
Any comments please
Thank you

Edward
