2 email clients and Webmail can’t access mail server

Primary email address. iPad Mail requests password and rejects the login. Outlook on Android phone does the same. Webmail won’t let me in and has locked me out for 20 minutes.

I haven’t yet tried deleting the Mail account on the iPad and reinstalling because it looks like that won’t work if the Webmail server is rejecting the correct data.

Is anyone else suffering this?

Re: 2 email clients and Webmail can’t access mail server

This a mess.

I reset my password and can access emails from the Outlook client on Android using nnnn AT btopenworld.com and the new p/w. But webmail doesn't allow this. It does permit nnnn AT btinternet.com to access webmail, but I've never done this before.
Now I can't access my basic BT account (via the normal nnnn AT btopenworld.com and the reset p/w) and have been locked out again.

I'm also having trouble logging into this BT Community site (using the dedicated username and p/w) . It tells me I've entered the incorrect p/w but then allows me in to post this.

Re: 2 email clients and Webmail can’t access mail server

The email suffix btinternet.com and btopenworld are interchangeable for the purposes of your email address being received and delivered however it may be the case that since BT made security changes to the way BTMail and MyBT is accessed using Two Factor Authentication that the username may have to be using the btinternet.com suffix.

Two Factor Authentication is not required when using an email client so it may be that because of that the btopenworld suffix is allowed through.

Re: 2 email clients and Webmail can’t access mail server

Thank you, gg.

I think it’s resolved now. New password works. Two more email clients to check. Goodness knows what triggered the previously trouble-free access on the iPad Apple Mail client; maybe the Two-factor Authentication after all?

(Apple Mail on the iPad is very flaky with other (non-BT) email addresses: randomly requesting passwords because they are not accepted, then randomly fixing the issue if I just close the pop-up boxes. But that’s another issue.)

Re: 2 email clients and Webmail can’t access mail server

Now I can’t access my BT account using my primary email - both suffixes, and the old and new passwords. And I’ve been locked out.

Fed up with BT after decades of loyalty. They put me on a new 2 yr contract for simply axing the £10 charge for free landline calls. £1,065 to cancel and leave.

Hi @FloFosterJenkins

Are you having trouble with the app, through a web browser or both?

Im having the same issue. It keeps telling me incorrect username/password, even though I use the exact same details on the Web page and it works. Extremely frustrating and BT live chat was utterly useless.

Hi @cmitch

I'm sorry you haven't had the help you needed when you reached out on chat, what did the team say when you spoke to them?
