I've used the default email app on my iphone and ipad for many years. Yesterday my phone updated to ios18.6. Since then I have not been able to connect to btinternet mail on it. I get an error message that IMAP doesn't support authenticated passwords. BT internet mail still works on my non-updated ipad, and the settings for the account match those for the iphone. Web mail too. I'm assuming this is something related to the ios update but wondering if others have experienced this. I've tried rebooting the phone, deleting and reinstalling the account but to no avail .

Iphone 15 and iPad on iOS 18.6, working OK. Try a restart?
Just noticed you've done that.
I am aware that you have said that you have the same settings as per one of your other devices but make sure that you are using the settings as per the following link

Pay attention to "Please do not enable secure password authentication (SPA). It's not needed when you use SSL encryption and will not work".
I would not normally advise this because in my opinion the BTMail App is a very poor email app but you could try installing it in order to see if the app works which if it does it would tend to confirm the update is the cause of the problem.
I have now downloaded the BT Mail App and that does indeed work.
Would appear that, as usual, the problem lies with Apple.
I suspect the upgrade has enabled SPA when it isn't needed
Seems like the problem was my fault. Inadvertently had VPN active, though UK based. Had tried numerous times to remove and reinstall but always failed. Deleted and reinstalled the mail account and it then worked. Reactivated the VPN and continued to work ok.
