E-mail reset

Why do i have to reset my password on my e-mail account every time i go on holiday? This is a very annoying trait of BT mail

Re: E-mail reset

No it isn't. It may be for you for some inexplicable reason, but it most certainly isn't a 'trait of BT mail'.

Re: E-mail reset

If it only happens when being outside UK sounds like security to make sure not being hacked

Re: E-mail reset

If it mainly happens when you use a public wifi hotspot or "free" hotel wifi it is probably caused because the hotspots IP address is most likely "Blacklisted" so BT lock your account as a security measure.

You could try using a VPN with a UK IP address which may help.

Re: E-mail reset

Ok thanks for that

Seems a hell of a limitation for an email as most people would use free Wifi when travelling in UK or anywhere, maybe BT should think about supplying a VPN as part the package if it is required, not aware of this limitation on other e-mails as i use Gmail as well without any issues like this

thanks

Re: E-mail reset

I can honestly say I have never had a problem with using BT email when abroad for many years using hotel WiFi nor have anyone I know personally.

It is certainly not a general problem as this forum would be inundated with complaints if it was. There are, however, a small number of complaints fairly regularly.

It is difficult to know what triggers the problem.

Re: E-mail reset

@licquorice

I also have had very few problems with BTMail when travelling abroad for more years than I can remember.

On the very few occasions that there was a problem, which was generally that it just refused to connect to the BTMail servers,  I just turned the wifi off and used the mobile 4/5g network signal and that instantly resolved the issue.

I suspect that it may be that the wifi is getting used at numerous different public hotspots and the BTMail system is being over cautious and just locks the email account.
