Email not sending from Windows 11

I am running Thunderbird on both windows 10 (on old PC) and Windows 11 (on a new PC). I can send and receive emails on the Windows 10 PC with no problems BUT can only receive on the Windows 11 PC - when I try to send it hangs for a few minutes and then bombs out (I have re entered the password but still will not send). Anyone have an idea what is going on ?

Are you presently a BT Broadband customer or are you paying for your email through a BT Premium email account or did you migrate to EE Broadband?

If none of the above your email account may have been downgraded to a BTMail Basic account which can not be used with an email client or email apps.

Still on halo 3+ (also sport)and paying £80 ish a month( full fibre) been with BT for as long as I can remember with same email address. Only change to my account is that the Sim only mobile has been switched to EE (another£10)  Like I say my email is working fine on my Windows 10 pc (via old Thunderbird set-up). But on the Windows 11 pc I receive emails no problem but cannot sent any or reply to a email. 
It looks as if on the Win 11 pc I am connecting direct to the BT email server. I am wondering if I should set-up a different email client on win 11 ?

I appreciate it’s entirely your choice to do so, but why do you persist in paying at least £1080 a year for broadband and mobile? That’s absolutely absurd!

Question yourself, do you need Halo3? Do you have a landline that you barely use or don’t need? Are you on a completely inappropriate broadband speed for your needs?

Honestly, many people depending on what package they’re on, are only paying between £25 and £35 a month for broadband. It reads very much like you’ve just got used to paying an enormous amount of money every month.

Thanks for your concern but it does not in any way help with my problem ie cannot send emails from windows 11 but is working fine on my Windows 10 PC. p.s At my age money is the least of my concerns, I just want some thing that works.

On a serious note, I think you answered your own question in your last post, set up a different email client for W11.

Check that the outgoing (SMTP) settings are correct. Port 465, SSL, and plain password.

Just checked and outgoing settings are correct (Port 465, SSL). What do you mean by plain password? I assume it is the same as mybt password.
Done a general web search and see that outgoing mail is a known problem with Thunderbird on Windows 11.

No, in email clients there is an option of how to send the embedded password, either in plain text or encrypted (SPA). BT requires the password in plain text. The whole connection is encrypted so encrypting the password is not required.

I have no problem using Thunderbird on W11 although it is not my main client. 

Do you have other accounts in Thunderbird as unlike some clients Thunderbird doesn't necessarily associate the SMTP server with the email address and uses the default SMTP server.
