Welcome to the many reports of this issue, caused by the massively over zealous nature of BT's supposed anti-spam system. BT seem not to investigate why this happens with continued regularity. Your best bet is to use a different email system, for example Gmail.

Hi @lilly76

Is there anything within the email that may be being picked up by our spam filters? Sometimes changing the subject field or content of the email can help.

Also, if you're using a VPN, this can sometimes bring up this error message.

Thank you Christopher.

I was sending the email to my daughter and she used a Gmail and it wouldn't go.  It came to me to send the email to myself.  I then went on my phone and forwarded to her and it went off alright.  I still don't know why it worked that way.  The email was only about repairs to a guttering and installing a mesh to prevent the leaves blocking the guttering, so I don't know what the problem was.

I am a mature adult (putting it nicely) so I don't understand what is meant by VPN and how it can be avoided.

@mature adult…You’d know if you were using a VPN, as they don’t happen by accident.

If you are interested…A VPN or ‘Virtual Private Network’ encrypts internet traffic, making it private.  It is a legitimate business security tool.

It can also be provided as a service by a third-party company.  They’ve had a very clever marketing spree over recent years; convincing people they need a VPN to stay secure on the internet.  In fact, these days, internet traffic is usually encrypted anyway, so it is debatable if a VPN service adds anything here.  There is a second factor in play, however.

If used via a VPN service provider it also has the effect of hiding your location, as when the traffic reaches its destination it looks as though it came from the VPN provider.  Consequently, naughty people sending spam can use a VPN to hide their true location.  I suspect BT’s mail system is set up to block their use because of this.
