Google Authenticator

Go to solution

Hi, I'm thinking of using Google Authenticator for my email. I have a btopenworld email address but my wife also uses a sub account email address. Can anyone advise whether BT email is OK with Google Authenticator and any implications for sub accounts please?

A secondary question is that I also have a Gmail account. I access both email accounts using Bluemail on my Android phone and tablet under a Unified tab that accesses email from either account in the same tab. Can anyone think of implications there?

I'm just worried that I could end up locking myself out if I'm not careful or at best making it a right pain to access email which is done several times a day.

BT email 2fa doesn't support Google Authenticator.

The only options are to send passcode to mobile number or email address.

Ummm, ok thank you. Does the email address have to be BT?

Oo, and does it affect sub accounts?

You can use any email address to receive the codes.

Not sure what you mean by 'affect sub accounts' , affect in what way?

My wife has a sub account, at one time I think they were called child accounts, which was setup under the main account years ago.

If I enable 2FA on my account will it affect hers too?

Did you gift the email account to her ie she has her own BTID and manages it through that or is it still one of your email accounts that your wife just happens to use.

If the later it means it comes under your BTID and is managed by you so it will come under your 2FA if you set it up.

If she manages it and has her own BTID and MyBT she would need to set up her own 2FA. It will not be covered by yours.

Umm, not quite sure what you mean by gift but the sub accounts are all setup by me logging in to MyBt as me. My wife doesn't have her own but we would welcome it if that is possible?

So from that it's seems that that if I setup 2FA her account will be affected and the the code will be sent to an email address or phone that she won't have access to.
