Moving an existing BT email address to another email account

My father has recently passed away and we have ceased the bt broadband and land line. I was notified I can transfer dads email account to my own BT account, so we don't miss any emails that may need to be dealt with.

I no longer have BT broadband as they asked us to move to EE but I still have my old BT email address which I have had for 28 years. So I do have a BT account and email but no products as such.

The help links on this subject all ask you to go into "products" and "what's included" but I don't get that option. Other than phoning BT is there a solution?

Re: Moving an existing BT email address to another email account

You can move an email account to another BT Broadband account so it should be able to be associated to your emails in your MyBT account which should still show your email accounts.

See link

https://www.bt.com/help/email/fix-a-problem/problems-with-email/can-i-move-my-bt-email-address-to-an...

I have assumed that you have access to your father's email account.

If for any reason that can not be done you could set up your father's email account to forward all emails to your email account.

To set forwarding log onto your father's email account and click on the username at the top right then click on settings. Once there click on Mail at the left hand column and then click on Auto Forward. Click on Enable Auto Forward then fill in the relevant details and click save.

Your father's email account will flash up a waring that Auto Forward has been set. This is a security warning set by BT so that the account user is aware that forwarding has been set per chance it was set up by an unauthorised person. It will turn off automatically after a few days.

Re: Moving an existing BT email address to another email account

It sounds like the issue is that you don’t have any active BT products linked, so the “Products” and “What’s included” options aren’t showing. In this case, only BT Support can transfer or retain access to the email after the broadband account closure. You may need to ask them to convert the email to a “Premium Mail” account, which keeps the address active without broadband.

You don't need a Premium account to keep email active without BT broadband. The email account will become Basic mail accessible via browser only.
