I am looking for an old email but my account does not show emails between 2009 and 2017 and the one i am looking for would have been 2012! any assistance greatly appreciated.
I suspect you had a mail client configured as POP3 for that period which would have downloaded the mails to the client and deleted them from the server.
If that is the case, they can only be recovered if you still have access to the device.
