Phishing emails

Go to solution

I have a btinternet.com email address.  Could someone please advise/confirm the correct procedure for reporting phishing emails that are constantly arriving in my 'spam' folder.  Should they be forwarded to phishing@bt.com, or to      report@phishing.gov.uk (or both)?   Does anyone actually DO anything with regard to blocking the senders, or is it just lip service?

Hi @partyanimal,

Welcome to the Community!

We would recommend forwarding this to phishing@bt.com and we also have more tips on what you can do to keep yourself protected, and what we do to keep you protected.

Re: Phishing emails

@Rach_H  Thank you.  I'm very conversant in the ways and means of protecting myself from scams.  However, I have been forwarding spam emails to phishing@bt.com for a month or so now without knowing if it's worthwhile.  I really just wanted to know if any action was being taken by BT to block these senders or remove their domain names altogether.  If it's a case of swimming against the tide, I'll save myself the trouble in future.

The team do look into all the emails they receive, and work with website owners, domain registrars to prevent this happening @partyanimal, but I can understand your concern, if this has been ongoing for some time.

Helpful reply Rach_H but I've noticed a recent increase in phishing email in the past 2-3 months. Most purport to be from BT or EE (!) and seem to co-incide with me re-contracting and switching to BT's new "digital voice" service with a new router (or is it EE's; I cant keep up). Previously, BT's spam filters were much more effective and all the fraud email ended up in "spam". If you know 'em, or have heft with'em, please tell BT/EE to sharpen up the filter act? Or am I just paranoid. (actually, I am, in that I never fall for junk!)

Re: Phishing emails

Good afternoon @AlexMac, thanks for sharing your experience here.

Is it a BTInternet email address you have, or are these coming through to a different domain?

Also what email address (or addresses) are the emails you're receiving coming from?

Feel free to pop up a screenshot if you'd like too, but make sure to mask any personal information.
