Re: Mail rules being ignored

Have also found (by trial and error) that the rule will not save if the Rule Name has any spaces in it. Bit wierd but it works.

Am now editing all my old rule names that used to work with spaces in, just in case. Strangely I found upon discovering the email rules in settings (had forgotten about them) they were de-activated. Am wondering if re-activating will ruin the current spam filtering which I've found increasingly effective, until recently.

Re: Mail rules being ignored

I have a similar issue.

I have set some rules to try to stop being bombarded by scam "your anti-virus subscription has expired" emails. I've set the rules to "discard" any emails containing the name I want to block. Each rule has a slight change in the company name to try to catch all variants.

Despite this, I still get these scam emails in my inbox or junk mail box.

Does "discard" mean "delete/block"?

Re: Mail rules being ignored

Hi,

I directed all my junk/spam emails to be sent to the SPAM option if, for example any Headers or if the Main Body (of the email) contained, for example, 'one of our members would like to contact you' or some other similar phrase which none of my genuine contacts would use.

I accidentally blocked a gmail address once and stopped receiving ALL correspondence from gmail, my bad as I'd incorrectly configured the 'rule' 😉

Re: Mail rules being ignored

Hi,  make sure your browser is in Desktop mode (3 dots top right, scroll down, tick Desktop site box) otherwise the 'rules' option won't show in the 'Settings>Mail>' when you get to your email settings.

Sorry if this is teaching u to suck eggs but want to make it clear for anyone else, I hope 😉

For email settings;

Top right of your email page, scroll right to see it if using tablet as not all screen maybe visible (on mine it's not) and click on your email address in the header bar just above 'view' and select 'settings' from drop down menu.

Move over to left side where the Settings menu is now visible and select 'Mail>Rules' (when I first did this it showed something like 'Mail rules suspended' and they were all greyed out so I activated them).

If you've already created a rule select the edit icon on the right then scroll right down to 'Set Rule Action'  in first box select menu option 'Move to Folder' then click on the second box to reveal it's option menu (on mine it won't let me scroll across to the down arrow, but clicking on it reveals the menu). Select the folder of choice i.e. 'Spam'. You must tick the 'Stop more Rules' box to be able to save it.

Sorry, a bit long winded but hope it helps😉

Re: Mail rules being ignored

brilliant thx ! Got that now

I thought that the "stop more rules" was to literally stop any more rules being applied that the user might have set up, -- to ensure that a specific rule eg the very first rule would be the only one applied ?

To Save  I have just been using the Save button ?
