Hi, I am getting lots of spam and phishing attempts from a domain called storify.com, all they do is change the front of the domain name and so it doesn’t matter how many times I block the sender they just change the domain name again, e.g. xxxx.storify.com. I don’t seem to be able to add a *.storify.com domain to my blocked domains list, how can I get BT to stop all of these clearly phishing attempts, the company storify.com failed 6 years ago or does anyone else have any ideas to stop them?
Set up a Rule to remove anything with the offending domain.
Many thanks, will do, would prefer BT took action to prevent this phishing attack from affecting others users of their services
If it was as easy as you appear to think all the email service providers, including BT would have implement it by now.
It is estimated that world wide over 200 Billion spam emails are sent daily which is about 45% of all the daily emails sent.
It is a constant battle for email service providers to try and defeat the spammers and given the numbers sent they do a pretty good job of stopping the vast majority of spam from ever reaching your Inbox. The email addresses and domains that spammers use are computer generated and are constantly changed to defeat the spam filters.
The email address that you see in the address box can be spoofed to appear as something different from the actual one that sent it.
Have you checked the email headers to see if the actual email account that sent it is the same as the email is purporting to have been sent from.
You need to look for the sending email address or domain in the header of the email and block that although you will most likely find it is a waste of time because they are constantly changed.
@rich789 I don’t of course deny that spam isn’t a problem for probably the vast majority of email providers, however, not all email providers are created equal.
I personally prefer to pay for my email service, a Swiss based provider, costs me around 30 quid a year and I can tell you that spam just isn’t a problem, I’ve had less than half a dozen spam emails this year. Basically, some email providers are just much better than others at filtering out spam before it even gets to a clients inbox. I’ve read a lot of the threads on this forum and there are many, all complaining about exactly the same spam issues. But of course you’ll always have plenty of email users “claim” that over decades, they never have any issues at all.
I get it, most folks don’t want to pay much for anything these days, but sometimes if you want a professional hassle free experience, needs must.
Many thanks for the reply and yes I do agree with you. What is frustrating is that this is a service that I do pay for. I also have a separate account at a different provider and SPAM on that account is not an issue for me. What is really interesting is that I recently moved from the BT service to the EE one (albeit still owned by BT) and the SPAM and Phishing issues I have started immediately after that change, it seems too great a coincidence to me. Thanks again
The reason that most paid for email services do not receive as much spam as free services is two fold. First, because in comparison to the likes of the big free email services such as gmail with 1.8 billion users, Microsoft Outlook webmail has in excess of 400 million users, Yahoo Mail with 225 million users and BT, while no email users numbers are given but it has 8.8 million customer and counting legacy customers that could mean they have about 80 million email users etc which I doubt any paid for service comes anywhere near those numbers.
Secondly, the paid for services are obviously not as well known so they do not attract the spammers as the return for them would most likely not be worth the effort of spamming them.
And for the information of @Kimberlin who cynically posted, you will undoubtedly find that there are people who "claim" have had no issues with spam over decades. The reason for that is because they have had no issues with spam!
If you feel that that "claim" is false please post your evidence contradicting it.

If you are receiving excessive amounts of spam, it may be that your email account has at some time ended up on a spammers list. They obtain email addresses from many sources such as hacked email accounts, hacked business accounts, email lists compiled by using your email address openly on the Internet where they can viewed and of course by unscrupulous staff of companies that you have supplied your email address to.
You can check to see if your email address is on such a list by using the following link.

Hey again @rich789.
Our email team have confirmed that we've taken further steps to block emails from this domain, so you should notice an improvement moving forwards.
Thanks again for taking the time to highlight this, too!
Peter
Thanks for taking the action
